The DWSW Monthly Chat is a free Zoom discussion ​for social work students and professionals to discuss topics related to disability in social work.

Group chats are expected occur monthly, likely on a Sunday at 4 pm ET. They will last around an hour.

What is it?

A casual and loosely facilitated virtual group chat for social work students and professionals, focused on topics related to disability and well-being in social work.

The goal is 30 minutes to an hour of discussion and community. Both reflective and more action-oriented discussion is welcome, come to chat, listen, collaborate or share ideas or resources.

Cameras are always optional and participants can come and go as they like.

• Offer or request support, collaborators or referrals
• Ask for or offer feedback on ideas
• Discussion on any DWSW updates

Is there a cost? 

It is free to attend the group chat events.

What is the format? 

The chat is hosted in Zoom format.

We will start a few minutes after the listed event time and to begin each event will provide space for introductions. A suggested topic may be introduced.

The group will engage in a casual conversation verbally and via the chat on that topic or others that come up. Sometimes we may include a short presentation or video on a topic or resource (5 minutes or so). 

We may include break out rooms for smaller discussion groups if there are many attendees. A shared Google document will capture summary information of discussion topics and resources.

About accessibility 

These events are hosted via Zoom and will include Zoom automatic captioning. Any video or images posted by the host will include captions or alt text. Participants should ensure videos or images they share are accessible via captions or alt text as well.

What happens to the chats after? 

The events will not be recorded. 

An anonymized summary of main points and resources will be drafted and available to participants via the DWSW community discussion forums. 

Once you have signed up as a Member on the discussion forums, you'll have access to view summaries for all completed events.
